    About Ms. Shipley

This is my twenty-seventh year teaching and my thirteenth with Parkway School District.  I am very excited about the upcoming year.  We will study many different topics and I look forward to getting to know all my new students and their families!

Previously, I taught elementary gifted students in the LEAP (Lindbergh's Eager Achievers Program) in the Lindbergh School District.  I also served as a differentiation resource for classroom teachers.

Before that, I taught gifted middle school students in Mehlville School District's STRETCH (Supplementary Resources for Educationally Talented CHildren) program.

I earned my BSEd degree from University of Missouri at Columbia (GO TIGERS!) with certifications in English, Speech, and Drama.  I earned my Master's degree in Education Administration from Lindenwood University.  I am also certified to teach gifted children and I have studied Educational Technology.  I am a National Board Certified teacher in gifted education.

     I Believe...

The purpose of the MOSAICS program is to meet the unique requirements of the individual student. The special abilities, aptitudes, and talents of every student must be identified and nurtured. The gifted classroom provides learning opportunities for those students who exhibit unique abilities and are capable of high performance.  I recognize that gifted students should have the opportunity to interact with and be stimulated by their intellectual peers on a regular basis without isolating them from the regular school program.  My classroom is a sanctuary for learning that encourages academic exploration, multi-faceted thinking, and an appreciation of diversity in the leaders of tomorrow.

My goal is to prepare students to become contributing members of society by building an awareness of real-world issues, integrating the use of technology, developing problem-solving abilities, and emphasizing the application of creative and critical thinking strategies to examine ideas from multiple perspectives.
