  •   The PTO Board is currently evaluating what events and activities might be able to take place during this school year.  

    Our goal is to bring connection and community to the River Bend students, families, and staff.  More updates will be communicated via the RB Facebook page and email.


    Past Events


    Opening Night: 

    An open house event for students to showcase what they have been doing in their classes.  Students present their leadership roles and goals, academic work, and specials activites to their families.  PTO hosts an informational booth, with volunteers advertising upcoming events.

    Scholastic Book Fair

    The Scholastic Book Fair is a major fundraiser for the RB library. The funds allow the library to purchase new books and products. Volunteers work with Scholastic to organize this event. The book fair has many areas for volunteers to serve. They may assist with preparations including scheduling volunteers, collecting teacher wish lists, creating decor, promoting the fair, and doing set-up. During the fair, volunteers assist students with making wish lists, run cash registers, restock supplies, and distribute student prizes and teacher books. Volunteers can also help with tear-down.

    Fall Party

    The Fall Party takes place in October, and it provides the kids a fun hour break from class.  The kids typically do a craft, play games, and have a snack.  Parents from each grade plan the party.

    Possible volunteer opportunities include:

    • Lead parent to coordinate planning and logistics
    • Plan games, snacks, and craft
    • Participate on the day of the party to help the kids do craft, game, snack

    Trunk or Treat

    Trick or Trunk is a fun community event where parents decorate their cars with a theme or just Halloween decorations and hand out candy. 

    Possible volunteer opportunities include:

    • Plan event
    • Take tickets at the event
    • Set up the event
    • Decorate car and pass out candy
    • Clean up after event

     Abilities Awareness Day

    On Abilities Awareness Day people with various disabilities are invited to come to River Bend to talk about their disability.  The goal is to give students an understanding of abilities differences and learning differences in a positive and supportive environment.  

    Possible volunteer opportunities include:

    • Work with the counselors to plan
    • Help host the guest speakers on Abilities Awareness Day

    Veteran’s Day Assembly

    The Veteran’s Day assembly is coordinated by Mrs. Mitulski.  Parents help Mrs. Mitulski in the planning and execution of the event.

    Possible volunteer opportunities include:

    • Set up for the event
    • Host Veterans at River Bend before and after the assembly.


    Winter Party

    The Winter Party takes place right after the Winter Sing-A-Long, which is on the last day of school before winter break.  The party is similar to the Fall Party, but will have winter themes.

    Possible volunteer opportunities include:

    • Lead parent to coordinate planning and logistics
    • Plan games, snacks, and craft
    • Participate on the day of the party to help the kids do craft, game, snack

    Bingo Night

    Cultural Fair

    River Bend Families from around the world set up a table with information about a country. 

    Possible volunteer opportunities include:

    • Plan event
    • Publicize the event
    • Set up for the event
    • Set up a table with information about a country
    • Clean up after the event

    STEM (Science) Fair

    The River Bend STEM Fair is at the end of January.  Students have the opportunity to submit projects to this fair for viewing by their peers.  All students can decide if they want to continue and submit their projects at the Parkway Science Fair.  In addition, the entire school has a “science day” where numerous volunteers do science demonstrations for the kids.

    Possible volunteer opportunities include:

    • Plan Science Fair
    • Publicize Science Fair
    • Plan demos for the Science Fair Day
    • Work at one of the demonstration tables (no science experience is necessary)
    • Judge at the Parkway Fair

    Friendship Party

    Family Fun Night

    Family Fun Night is a big fundraiser for our Arts Partners program.  The Arts Partners Program gives each grade level an “arts opportunity”, which ranges from visiting Powell Hall to hear the symphony to exploring movement with an artist.  There are numerous games for kids to play in the gym and also a silent auction.

    Possible volunteer opportunities include:

    • Help plan games for the event
    • Help with organizing concessions and prize donations.
    • Set up and clean up event


    Used Book Fair

    Used book donations are collected and resold to the students for 50 cents.  The money goes to the PTO for various programs.

    Possible volunteer opportunities include: 

    • Plan and publicize event
    • Put out bins to collect books and manage the donations
    • Set up the Used Book Fair
    • Work at the Used Book Fair collecting money
    • Clean up after the Used Book Fair

    Fun Run

    This event is coordinated with the PE staff.  The PTO helps set up the event and provides volunteers to help during the event.  The PTO provides breakfast after the race.

    Possible volunteer opportunities include:

    • Plan event (get volunteers and work out logistics with PE teachers)
    • Publicize event
    • Get breakfast items and have them ready after the race.
    • Help during the race (pass out numbers and course guides)
    • Clean up after event

    Field Day

    During the last week of school, River Bend has a Field Day.  Classes play games outside during this day.  The PTO helps with the games and also provides a hot dog and chip lunch that day.

    Possible volunteer opportunities include: 

    • Get parent volunteers to help during the day
    • Shop for hot dogs, etc for school lunch
    • Volunteer on the day of the event to help with games or cook food.



    We have the PAWsitively Giving program which asks for donations to the school.  This is our main fundraiser.  We also have McTeacher’s Night at McDonalds and collect Box Tops for Education

    • Every year River Bend has a yearbook that contains pictures taken during picture day, as well as some candid pictures.
    • Help take pictures for the yearbook
    • Help with layout for the yearbook

    Staff Appreciation

    The PTO gives teachers and staff treats of some sorts each month to show appreciation and also celebrate their birthdays.  On conference night, the PTO provides food for the teachers, so that can eat in between conferences.  During Teacher Appreciation Week, the PTO provides lunch for the teachers and staff.

    • Coordinate treats for the teachers (get volunteers for each month)
    • Bake or purchase a treat on your given month
    • Plan food for conference night or Teacher Appreciation Week
    • Donate food and help set up Teacher Appreciation Week lunches or conference night food

    Library Helper
