Facilities 2050

Parkway’s buildings, many of which have served multiple generations, are showing their age. Our community has voiced the need for updated, accessible, and secure spaces that support student success. To meet the high standards we set for our district, we must revitalize our facilities to reflect excellence.


As outlined in Parkway’s 2024-2029 Strategic Plan, facilities are essential in providing resources for student success. In response, Parkway is launching Facilities 2050, a multi-year initiative to engage parents, staff, students, and the broader community in shaping the future of our facilities. 

This process will build on the work underway through the 2022 Prop S bond projects and expand our vision. Facilities 2050 is about rethinking, revitalizing, and reimagining how we use our spaces to serve students and staff. It will focus on short-term and immediate needs, as well as long-term strategies. 

Together, with careful planning, we will envision bold improvements aligned with our strategic plan, our budget, and the overall priorities of helping students succeed at school and in life. We must ensure Parkway students and staff have the facilities and physical resources to meet present and future needs.  

Like Project Parkway, Facilities 2050 will use two groups to chart the path forward. 

  • Core Committee: Parkway staff who will work on immediate and short-term improvements to facilities processes and needs.

  • Steering Committee: Community members, including the Board of Education, parents, students, and others, will identify long-term needs and strategies for improving the condition of facilities. 

These groups started meeting in January 2025.

January 28, 2025: Project Parkway Steering Committee meeting

Facilities 2050's work kicked off at the steering meeting with Parkway community members, leaders, teachers, and staff. The group: 

  • Reviewed the Strategic Plan to understand how the work for Facilities 2050 will proceed as part of our five-year plan. 
  • Reviewed community feedback and data on our facilities we heard during the development of the strategic plan. 
  • Began to outline key goals and objectives of Facilities 2050 and key areas of need.

February 5, 2025: Parkway State of the District 

The community received an update on Facilities 2050 and how the work will lead to a long-term Facilities Revitalization Plan, which is scheduled to be implemented starting in the 26-27 school year.

March 24, 2025: Project Parkway Steering Committee meeting

Parkway community members, leaders, teachers, and staff reviewed:

  • Revised goals for Facilities 2050
  • Work in progress: a demographic study (early planning phase), a facilities assessment (in-progress) and continued facility improvements from the Prop S bond issue.
  • Timeline for Facilities 2050:
    • 25-26 Creation of Facilities Revitalization Plan
    • 26-27 Execution of the plan which is guiding current and future bond projects

April 22, 2025: Project Parkway Steering Committee meeting

Parkway community members, leaders, teachers, and staff:

  • Reviewed progress on the facility improvement projects funded by the 2022 bond issue, Proposition S, a no tax rate increase bond issue which funded $265 million of projects to improve safety, security, accessibility, technology, and maintenance and repairs of aging buildings. 
  • Reviewed sample Facilities Revitalization Plans from other districts to determine key components to include in a Parkway plan.

September 18, 2025: Project Parkway Steering Committee meeting

Parkway community members, leaders, teachers, and staff

  • Reviewed goals and the previous work of this group on Facilities 2050
  • Received an update on Prop S facilities updates from the Summer of 2025 -- the biggest summer ever of construction in Parkway.
  • Learned about going needs in aging buildings: In the first 30 days of school, there were nearly 500 facility requests to address heating and cooling systems and plumbing at schools across the district. The group also learned about preventative maintenance strategies, staffing needs, and improved communication to address these concerns. 
  • Heard an operations staffing update: Custodial staffing is stable, and maintenance staffing levels have improved.
  • Learned about data that will be collected: early stages of planning a demographic study and facilities condition assessment study.

November 17, 2025: Project Parkway Steering Committee meeting

Parkway community members, leaders, teachers, and staff learned about the data we are collecting that will inform our long-range facilities revitalization plans:

  • We are starting a Facilities Condition Assessment in partnership with an external expert. This will enable us to thoroughly assess and understand each building’s short-term and long-term needs. This includes the entire building envelope from roofs, to HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical, doors and windows, locks, etc. An assessment identifies issues to ensure the building is watertight, structurally sound, and energy-efficient. Each school will receive a grade indicating its condition.
  • This school year, we will also complete a demographic study that will analyze our population—including housing, birth rates, age, and other demographics—to help us plan for enrollment trends, programming needs, and facilities.
  • All of this data will help us as we develop a long-range facilities revitalization plan for Facilities 2050 during the 2026-27 school year.
