This is my 14th year of teaching elementary music and my third in Parkway. It is such a privilege to teach music here and I am looking forward to another great year.
At Green Trails we utilize the Orff-Schulwerk method which I am certified at Level 3. Developed by Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman, it strives to build musicianship through singing, playing instruments, speech, and movement. Student driven creativity is infused into daily music lessons so curricular goals are met in fun and ever changing ways and it has simply transformed my teaching.
In addition to daily music classes I lead a non-auditioned choir that meets before school one morning each week with performances throughout the year. Students in 4th and 5th grade may also consider singing in the Parkway All District Honor Choir in February. This 200+ member choir is amazing to listen to and we can bring up to 13 GT students.
There are many wonderful instruments that we use to create with but my biggest goal is for each child to grow in confidence using the most beautiful and unique instrument ever made...their voice. If you ever have questions about the music program at Green Trails please feel free to reach out to me anytime.
Here's to an incredible year of making music!
