Virtual Snow Days

In-person classes may be canceled due to inclement weather or other emergencies. If we use three snow days this year, the fourth day would be a virtual learning day for students in grades 3-12. Students in early childhood and grades K-2 will complete a learning packet.

Here’s what a virtual snow day would look like:

Early Childhood, Elementary Grades K-2

  • Since students in early childhood and grades K-2 do not regularly bring Chromebooks home, they will access their learning activities using paper-based materials.
  • In their virtual learning day packet, students will complete any ‘must-dos’ and one activity from each content area. A parent/guardian must initial each activity completed.
  • Students will return their packets to school on the first day back in-person classes resume.  Completion of the activities will serve as each student’s attendance for the virtual learning day.
  • Teachers for early childhood and K-2 students will be available throughout the day via email to answer any questions.
  • In addition to being sent home with students, all virtual learning day packets are available below.

Elementary Grades 3-5

  • Virtual snow days run from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
  • By 8:30 a.m., teachers will post any information, activities, or assignments students will need for the day. 
  • Classroom teachers will be available online for two hours for student support via Google Meet - once from 9-10 a.m. and again from 1-2 p.m.  This is the time for students to access teachers if they need clarification or additional help with their work for the day.
  • Students are not required to join either of the times when teachers are available.
  • Elementary Art, Music, Strings, and PE teachers will provide activities or assignments for independent learning by 8:30 a.m.  They will also be available on Google Meet from 10-11 a.m. and 12-1 p.m. for student questions or support with their work for the day.
  • EL, Gifted, Reading, Math Support Specialists, Special Educators, and Librarians will be available from 10-11 a.m. and 12-1 p.m. on Google Meet and will respond to student questions/needs via email.

Middle School

  • Middle schools will follow the two-hour late start schedule.
  • Students will access their courses through Schoology and/or Google Meet at the scheduled start time for each class.
  • The class schedule will follow the school calendar.  For example, if the day were scheduled to be an odd-numbered class day, students would attend their odd-numbered classes. 
  • Teachers will meet students on Google Meet at the start of each class period, take attendance, and inform students of the learning plan for that day based on the needs of that class and group of students on that day.
  • If the learning plan for the day calls for asynchronous learning, teachers will remain available via Google Chat during that class period to support students' needs.

High School

  • High schools will follow the two-hour late arrival schedule.
  • Students will access their courses through Schoology and/or Google Meet at the scheduled start time for each class.
  • The class schedule will follow the school calendar.  If the day is scheduled to be a day when only odd-numbered classes meet, students will attend their odd-numbered classes.  If all classes were to meet, they would attend all classes, etc.
  • Teachers will meet students on Google Meet at the start of each class period, take attendance, and inform students of the learning plan for that day based on the needs of that particular class and group of students on that day.
  • If the learning plan for the day calls for asynchronous learning, teachers will remain available via Chat during that class period to support students' needs.

What to Expect on a Virtual Snow Day on Half-Day or Early Release

  • All students in grades K-2 will complete paper-based activities found here.
  • All students in grades 3 and above: Classwork will be asynchronous. By 8:30 a.m., teachers will post any information, activities, or assignments students will need for the day in Schoology. Middle school teachers, high school teachers, and teachers of elementary specials will post work for the classes scheduled to meet that day. 
  • EL, Gifted, Reading, Math Support Specialists, Special Educators, and Librarians will be available via email to respond to student questions and needs.
