Letter to VST parents about VICC extension
11/28/16 -- This letter was sent to all VST familes from Dr. Marty on November 28, 2016 regarding the future of the VICC program.
Dear families,
I’m writing to follow up on the information you recently received from David Glaser, CEO of the Voluntary Interdistrict Choice Corporation (VICC), about the future of the VICC program.
Since VICC began in the early 1980s, more than 70,000 students have been able to participate. I hope you agree that it has provided both city and county students access to high quality educational and interpersonal opportunities, and has enhanced racial and socio-economic diversity, which are so important for our region and the nation as a whole.
As Mr. Glaser mentioned, the VICC governing board recently voted to wind down the program gradually over the next 20 years. New students may continue to enroll through 2024 and once enrolled, students may continue in the program through graduation if they wish. This means kindergarteners admitted in 2023-24, for example, could remain in the program through 2037.
Please rest assured that any students who are currently enrolled here in Parkway may also continue here through graduation and we look forward to serving your family in the years ahead.
If you would like additional information about future plans for the VICC program, please visit the VICC website at http://www.choicecorp.org.
Sincerely,
Dr. Keith Marty
