Steps to improve security at football games
8/30/2019 -- The below letter was sent to all parents and staff today.
Dear Parkway families and staff,
We are excited to kick off the fall high school football season, and looking forward to experiencing the enthusiasm and school spirit of Friday night football.
I mentioned in my letter to you last weekend that as a result of the unfortunate incident at North High, we would immediately review and re-examine our procedures and policies. In our ongoing commitment to the safety of our students, staff and guests, we have decided to take additional steps to improve security at home football games.
- First, we will have an increased security presence at home football games, and we are employing extra security personnel to ensure the safety of those in attendance.
- No bags or backpacks will be allowed into high school stadiums during Friday night home games, starting tonight. This applies to all students and adults attending varsity football events. Purses, diaper bags, and bags needed for medical reasons will still be allowed, but are subject to inspection before entry will be permitted. There are no provisions for leaving prohibited items at the gate. Parkway will not be responsible for items left behind, lost, stolen or damaged and reserves the right to deny entry to any football game to any person not complying with this policy.
- If you leave the stadium during the game, no re-entry will be permitted. Once the game begins, hanging out or loitering in the parking lots will not be permitted. At Central High, visitors will continue to be allowed to exit with a hand stamp to access concessions and restrooms that are not located inside the stadium.
We will continue to monitor and evaluate our safety procedures and share any new additional changes in the future. We appreciate your understanding and support to ensure an even safer environment for our students and guests to enjoy the wonderful experience of high school football!
Thank you,
Dr. Keith Marty
