Congratulations to the winners of the Sustainable Schools Challenge
6/21/2021 -- During the 2020-21 school year, Parkway hosted the second annual Sustainable Schools Challenge. The program encourages students and staff to positively respond to an ever-changing world by taking action towards sustainability goals such as reducing energy and water use, minimizing waste and outdoor learning.
This year’s challenge winners, who earned the most points within their competing groups, are Sorrento Springs, Green Trails, Hanna Woods, Pierremont elementary schools, Southwest Middle and South High. These schools have earned $700 to support their efforts and were recognized at the June 16 Board of Education meeting.
Despite a multitude of challenges and uncertainties this school year, Parkway students and staff were still able to integrate sustainability into learning and take action toward reducing our environmental impact while sharing their learning with others.
This year, there have been:
- 919 students, staff, and family members signed up for the Sustainable Schools Challenge
- 29 Parkway schools participated
- 16 schools that earned 100+ points
- More than 1,300 activities reported
From taking steps to reduce energy and water use, improving outdoor spaces, decreasing waste, and learning about global climate change, students and staff have made an impact both at home and at school.
