Parkway teacher honored by Challenger Learning Center
2/2/2017 -- The Challenger Learning Center-St. Louis recognized seven area educators who received a 2017 Inspiring Teachers award at reception on January 26. The award is in honor of the seven Challenger astronauts, including Christa McAuliffe, who would have been the first teacher to go into space. The event is supported by Emerson, Boeing, Clark-Fox Family Foundation, North County Incorporated, and UMSL College of Education.
Timothy Morrison from Parkway South High School was one of the seven honorees. The award recipients were selected from a group of educators who inspire their students to pursue a career in a science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) field.
In addition to evening reception and part of the Inspiring Teacher Celebration, the Challenger Learning Center held a program for pre-service teachers from area colleges and universities on January 27. Those students participated in hands-on activities that were similar to the ones that Christa McAuliffe was planning on teaching from space, as well as a simulated space mission with a group of 8th-grade students from Compton-Drew ILC Middle School.
