Parkway health update; masks will be optional for staff, students and visitors ages 12 and older
6/15/2021 -- As we continue our summer school programs, athletics and activities, we wanted to share an important update.
-
Beginning July 6, masks will be optional for staff, students and visitors ages 12 and older, regardless of vaccination status, in all Parkway schools and district buildings. Masks will still be required for adults supervising children under the age of 12.
-
The CDC and local health department still require masks on any form of public transportation. Therefore, students will need to wear masks if they are riding a bus.
-
We have not finalized our plans for the 2021-22 school year but will certainly be in touch with more information as soon as possible.
-
Parkway indoor facilities will be open for community use starting July 6.
Here are the factors we considered when making this decision:
-
The transmission rates in our county continue to decline and positive cases in our schools have steadily declined.
-
Updated guidelines from the CDC do not require masks for individuals who are vaccinated. Adults and children ages 12 and older are eligible for vaccination. In Parkway, we have a high rate of vaccination among adults working in our schools and district offices.
-
The majority of our summer programs in July and August are for high school students. There are fewer students indoors with more opportunities for physical distancing and more outdoor athletic activities.
We will continue monitoring any new cases in our schools and buildings and complete contact tracing when necessary. We will also physically distance whenever possible, continue our current cleaning and disinfecting protocol, and remind students and staff to stay home if they are not feeling well.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to ensure the health and safety of our staff and students.
