Parkway students place third at Purina Better Pets Hackathon
10/31/2017 -- Haran Kumar, Matt Stoffa and Michael Navazhylau, West High, and Kit Collver, South High, placed third at the Purina Better Pets Hackathon on October 15 at Purina headquarters. They were the only non-professional team in the competition and were able to create a fully functional app in less than 36 hours.
Their app, Doggos, is a way to match pets that are left at home during the day with community organizations that utilize service animals to provide companionship. The team is part of the Spark! Tech Solutions program at Parkway.
The students won $1,500 in cash to be split amongst the team and Purina product (swag) for each team member.
The theme of the event was how to make St. Louis the most pet-friendly city in the county through connected technology.
A hackathon is an event where people rapidly prototype ideas. Typical hackathons last 48 hours over the course of a weekend.
