North High’s Brian Reeves named ‘Outstanding Music Educator of the Year’
1/20/2021 -- Each year, the National Federation of High Schools awards the Outstanding Music Educator of the Year to one recipient in each state. This year, MSHSAA has recognized Brian Reeves as the 2020-2021 Missouri state award recipient.
Reeves is currently in his 29th year as a music educator. Currently, he teaches choir and general music at North High School. Prior to this position, he taught choir at Odessa Junior High and High School in Odessa, Missouri.
His choirs have been selected to perform twice at the Missouri Music Educators Association Conference. During his tenure at Parkway North, choirs have received twenty-four consecutive Exemplary ratings at the MSHSAA State Large Ensemble Festival.
Reeves is involved in and held leadership positions in several professional music education organizations. He served as president of the Missouri Choral Directors Association and is currently past-president of the Missouri Music Educators Association. He has presented sessions to state leaders at the National Association for Music Education National Assembly in Washington D.C. and the National Association for Music Education Southwest Division.
Reeves and his wife Stacy are proud North area residents and parents to two Viking children, Molly and Henry.
The National Federation of High Schools is the national leader and advocate for high school athletics, as well as fine and performing arts programs. Within the 51-member state associations, it serves 19,500 high schools and more than 12 million young people. The Missouri State High School Activities Association is the Missouri chapter of the National Federation of High Schools.
