Parkway's Katherine Park received 'Outstanding Service as a School Nurse Award’
10/30/2017 -- School Nurse Katherine Park (pictured right), Oak Brook Elementary, received the "Outstanding Service as a School Nurse Award" from the Suburban St. Louis School Nurse Association October 26 at their annual banquet.
Park has been a leader in the development of safe practices for schools in taking care of students with diabetes. In obtaining her master’s in public health/school health from the University of Missouri, she focused her studies on developing a toolkit to train unlicensed personnel on the care of students with type 1 diabetes. As a result of this toolkit, countless school nurses and unlicensed school staff have been educated in Parkway Schools, the St. Louis Suburban area and throughout Missouri.
She continues to lead Parkway's diabetes training program and has helped develop statewide diabetes training standards for school personnel. Most recently, Park continued her passion for educating school staff about diabetes with her involvement in creating dialogue for edutainment training, Diabetes Educational Module for MO School Nurses, 2017
