Student Led Conferences

Student Led Conferences: On Tuesday, March 3rd and Thursday, March 5th, we will host student led conferences. We are changing our structure for spring conferences to be Student Led instead of Teacher Led.

This year through our LEAD work, we have been working on a paradigm shift from "the systems needs to change" to "change starts with me". Shifting from Teacher Led to Student Led this spring, brings us one step closer.

With easy Infinite Campus data and the addition of academic responsibility reporting, parents are provided with information about your child’s learning in real time. What we haven’t done is have students give specific examples and insight to their learning. We realize this is a change for all but we ask that you come along this journey with us to empower students to lead their own learning for life long success.

Why Student-Led Conferences: With Student-Led conferences, the responsibility of the conference rests with the student. Students will share with their parents what they have learned, show their parents their student portfolios, and discuss the reasons for their academic grades.

Our students will use the digital notebooks during the conference. Why use a digital notebook?

  1. Digital notebooks expand the repertoire of techniques available to students and educators to demonstrate learning. Pictures, videos, and audio recordings are added to the typical paper and pencil tasks that students complete.

  2. Struggling students (i.e. writing, reading) are given alternative modes of expression and means to demonstrate learning. This can lead to increases in self-confidence and achievement.

  3. Development of 21st-century skills. One of the 7 survival skills of the 21st century focuses on effective oral and written communication. Digital notebooks can help engage students in practicing these important abilities.

  4. Digital notebooks allow students to track and demonstrate their growth over longer periods of time. While paper portfolios get stored or discarded at the end of a term or school year, digital notebooks can remain available and easily accessible to students, parents, and educators.
