November is Indigenous People's Heritage Month. Did you know that recently the term “ Indigenous Peoples” has replaced “ Native Americans”. Be mindful of this when talking about and referencing Indigenous Peoples.

Packets are now available for the HBCU tour. This year's tour will be during spring break and we will visit Spelman and Morehouse Colleges, Clark-Atlanta University, North Carolina A&T, Norfolk State, Hampton, and Central State Universities. We will also visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington DC. Please see Mrs. Brown for an information packet.

Did you know that teens who drink heavily are three times more likely to try and hurt themselves through self-harm or attempting suicide than those who don't? So what can you do? Apply to be a Peer Teacher to talk with students at the middle school to help stop these trends. You don't have to be perfect to be a Peer Teacher, but you do have to have an interest in helping others be their best. Applications are available in the Counseling Office and on the PCH website. You can turn them in to Dr. Metropoulos by Monday, November 11 in person or electronically. See Dr. Metropoulos, BA, Ms. O'Leary, or Mrs. Brown for more information.

HOSA meets every Monday after school in Ms. Kelley's room, 1100. Come this Monday to learn why blood pressure is a vital sign that most health care professionals use. We'll also be learning how to take blood pressures!

Did you know the final book in the Scythe series is coming out on Tuesday, November 5th? Go to the library website and answer the trivia questions for a chance to win your very own copy. You can also complete the trivia by picking up a print copy in the library. We will give away 2 books, or you can come and check out a copy in the library.

PCH cheerleading is hosting a second try-out for the upcoming basketball season. Clinics are Nov 4th and 6th 3:30-5pm in Gym C. And try-outs are Thursday, Nov 7th at 3:30 in Gym C. Talk to a current cheerleader for more info!

If you would like to play, cheer or coach the Powder Puff football pick up an application outside of Student Activities! Forms and money are due to the school store by Nov. 7th.

Have you seen people embodying respect, integrity and kindness around PCH? Is there anyone you feel deserves to be called out for helping make our community great? Anonymously nominate them to be a winner of the Colts Community award! Forms are available online as well as paper submissions found on the student activities board. Turn in paper submissions to the box in Theo’s office. All submissions are due November 7th.
