An important message from Dr. Marty
6/3/2020 -- The below note was sent to all Parkway parents and staff.
Dear Parkway community,
It has been a particularly challenging few months. Now we are further heartbroken and dismayed by yet another senseless and unnecessary loss of life of a black man. I share feelings of anger and frustration, none of which match what many of our citizens, colleagues, families, and students face nearly every day. I stand with each of you, especially our students, staff and parents of color as we all grapple with what we are currently experiencing as well as the experiences from our past.
We have much work to do in America to rebuild trust and systems that are meant to protect us. We have been working in Parkway for years to address our biases and dismantle racism and will continue our efforts to embrace and promote equity, diversity, and social justice. Based on the current reality across the nation and in our own community we must work collectively as we believe in the possibilities of creating the world we want to see.
As our hearts are heavy and communities struggle, I call on all of us in Parkway to reach out to love and support each other. I further invite families, students and staff to know we have supports and personnel available for you from our school administrators, school and district counselors, social workers, care coordinators, and members of the district student services team.
If you have questions about who can provide support, please email our Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, Dr. Greg Mathison at gmathison1@parkwayschools.net.
Now more than ever, we are committed to showing love and care for those who are hurting. We stand united in support of justice, true equity, individual rights and freedoms. And we will continue to condemn racism, bigotry and hatred in any form.
Dr. Marty
