Back to school January 5: Health and safety update
1/4/2022 -- We hope you have enjoyed a safe and relaxing winter break and are looking forward to welcoming students back to school tomorrow, Wednesday, January 5.
We want to assure you that we are closely monitoring COVID numbers in our schools and region. We will, of course, continue our current mitigation measures that have been in place, including mask-wearing, physical distancing to the extent possible, good hand hygiene and daily cleaning and sanitation protocols.
As we prepare to return, these are the most important things to know:
- As always, students and staff who are not feeling well should not attend school or work. Please stay in touch with your school nurse to report illness. Individuals who are sick or have symptoms of COVID-19 at school/work will be sent home with instructions from the school nurse.
- Masks will continue to be required inside all Parkway schools and buildings.
- We are aware of ongoing updates to CDC guidelines regarding how long positive cases are required to isolate. We will continue to watch this closely. At this time, there are no changes to our current board-approved plan. For more details, visit our website here.
- The Board of Education will review plans and vote again on January 13 at 7 p.m. We will closely review conditions in each school, the community and any updated CDC guidelines. Again, there are no changes to our current plan until the board votes to approve any changes.
- Our Community Health Dashboard is updated daily so you can monitor health conditions at your school and building.
We expect to see continued illness in the coming weeks during this current wave. We will need to closely monitor student and staff absences as we work to maximize in-person learning. We want to keep healthy students and staff in school. If we need to make adjustments to support the health of our schools, we will certainly be in touch.
You can expect to hear from us often as we navigate the upcoming weeks. Thank you for your support.
