Erika Niles selected as principal of Green Trails Elementary
4/23/2021 -- Erika Niles has been selected as the next principal of Green Trails Elementary, effective July 1.
Niles is currently a building leader and instructional coordinator at Captain Elementary in the School District of Clayton where she has served for three school years. Prior to this leadership role, she was a middle school gifted, social studies and literacy coach and elementary math specialist in the Ladue School District. She began her career nearly 22 years ago as an elementary classroom teacher serving in both Rockwood and Hazelwood elementary schools.
Niles holds a master’s in education administration from Southwest Baptist University, a master’s in education from Lindenwood University and a bachelor’s in education from Maryville University. She is currently a doctoral student at the University of Missouri-St. Louis where she is working on her doctorate in character education and servant leadership with one of the most renowned character education experts.
Niles brings a student-centered focus to the Green Trails community, which is a tradition she will carry on from Rene Sommers. Niles is committed to honoring the diversity of Green Trails, its strong tradition of character education and partnerships with the greater community.
Superintendent Keith Marty said, “As part of the hiring process, we have various panels participate in interviews. After members of the Green Trails staff and parents participated in the interview with Ms. Niles, they provided consistent feedback regarding a number of areas. Parents and staff said they valued her expertise in curriculum, instruction and assessment practices. Her attention to developing relationships with students, staff and parents was evident. Those who participated in the hiring process also noted Erika is passionate, loves children and will work to meet the needs of all learners.”
When Niles accepted this position, she said “I am honored to be selected to lead Green Trails. This community is truly child-centric and balances personal warmth and high expectations while working to build a sense of belonging for each and every member of the community. I am looking forward to serving in such a special place.”
Niles replaces Rene Sommers who is retiring.
