North High’s ‘The Bee Boys’ team won $7,000 in Lexus Eco Challenge
12/6/2019 -- The North High team, “The Bee Boys” won $7,000 in the Lexus Eco Challenge. Team members are Maxim Evets, Christopher Lau, Nevan Garner, Mason Andrews, Caden Huffines, Josh Mueller and Lorenzo Prila. The students will share a $7,000 cash prize and $2,000 will be given to the school to improve the greenhouse. North High is one of only eight teams across the country to win.
The team’s project was to design and build a backyard beehive, sharing the plans with interested parties. They also visited elementary schools to help the students build small hives meant for solitary bees, one of the most common species.
In the Lexus Eco Challenge, student teams tackle environmental issues related to land, water, air, and climate, and create action plans with practical solutions and quantifiable results while competing for amazing prizes—for eligible teachers, students, and schools: $500,000 in scholarships and grants awaits.
The contest is broken into three main parts: Land & Water Challenge, Air & Climate Challenge and the Final Challenge (by invitation only, open to winners of the previous two challenges).
Since 2006, students and teachers have been making a difference in the eco-health of our planet through the Lexus Eco Challenge, a STEM contest for grades 6–12.
Parkway has long been one of the most environmentally conscious school districts in Missouri, and Parkway North High School has long been one of the most environmentally aware schools in the district.
