Health and safety update

12/16/2021 -- At its meeting last night, the Board of Education voted 7-0 to approve updates to our pandemic response plans. The Board of Education is required to approve these plans every 30 days. Therefore, the board will meet and vote again on January 13, 2022 at 7 pm.

The most important things to know:

  • Masks will continue to be required of all students, staff and visitors through January 17, 2022.
  • At its January 13 meeting, the Board of Education will vote to determine if Parkway will move to a mask recommended environment. Pending board approval, masks will be recommended, but not required, effective January 18, 2022. This decision will be based on conditions in each school, conditions in the community at large and CDC guidelines.
  • Our plan includes safeguards to address any outbreaks of illness at a school. If more than 2% of the student population tests positive for COVID-19 at a given time (and a minimum of 8 students), masks would be required at that school for two weeks.
  • Starting December 23, 2021, Parkway’s quarantine policies will be replaced with current board policies and state laws already in place to address all contagious illnesses in schools. Students will not be excluded from school solely as a result of being a close contact with a positive case at school, regardless of vaccination status.

We know there are many opinions, needs and desires in our community related to these decisions. However, I’m confident we all want what is best for our children.

Our goals remain the same. We will continue to be flexible and respond to any changing conditions based on the best information at the time and make decisions in the best interest of our children.

We will continue to stay in touch as we move forward. I hope you enjoy winter break with family and friends and wish you all the best for a Happy New Year.
