District update from Dr. Marty
Dear Parkway staff,
I hope this finds you and your family safe and well. Typically, this time of year is so full of wonderful celebrations of our students. We are missing our students and staff and looking forward to the day when we can all be together again.
As you can imagine, it has been challenging to plan ahead as we look at events, activities and all of the things that go along with our typical school year and summer. We will continue to use the guidance and orders of our local health officials to make decisions in the best interest of our community.
At this time, school buildings and offices remain closed. When we have more information in May, we will develop plans for offices to re-open this summer for year-round staff.
As we look ahead, right now we are planning for all events and activities to remain canceled through June 30. We would like to open our schools, fields and facilities as soon as it’s possible. So when the current stay at home order is lifted, we will review our plans and make adjustments that are consistent with guidance from local officials. If we are able to open sooner and resume activities, we will certainly let you know.
We remain hopeful that we can resume operation as soon as possible knowing that there may also be a new normal.
Personal Items at School and Office
In the next few days, principals will share plans for teachers and staff to start retrieving items from our schools and classrooms. There will be different phases of these plans, based on priorities and needs.
First, we want to provide an optional opportunity for staff to quickly pick up essential learning materials and personal items right now. Second, we have some schools where major summer construction is planned. In these schools, we want to provide staff additional opportunities to retrieve items and pack up classrooms.
At the end of May, there will be another opportunity for staff to enter our schools and buildings. When the stay at home order is lifted, we will also share plans for students to retrieve personal belongings from classrooms and lockers.
Each plan will provide safe access to our buildings for staff, following approved health and social distancing guidelines and limiting the number of people in the same areas of the building at the same time whenever possible.
If you are entering a building, please follow these precautions.
Summer School Update
Parkway Summer School for 2020 has been modified to ensure the safety and health of our community. Summer school for high school students will include virtual courses offered online for students who are interested. For elementary and middle school students, most summer school experiences cannot be offered this year in a traditional in-person setting. We are sharing the same information with parents later today.
If you were hired for summer school, look for information from your school’s summer administrator about what positions may be available. In addition, you can review the K-8 Staff FAQ or 9-12 Staff FAQ.
We appreciate your ongoing patience and understanding as we make these decisions. Most importantly, we share your hope, excitement and desire to be back together as soon as possible!
