Mu Alpha Theta

  • Sponsor: Kurt Lehmann (Math)

Mu Alpha Theta, the National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society, was formed in 1957 at the University of Oklahoma. We are dedicated to inspiring a keen interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject, and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school and two-year college students. Currently, more than 124,000 students are Mu Alpha Theta members at more than 2,633 schools in the United States and in 23 foreign countries.” (www.mualphatheta.org)

At Parkway Central, Mu Alpha Theta members provide service to the school through tutoring, participating in school beautification events, assisting with the Parkway Food Pantry, and other service opportunities.  The honor society is open to students who have both a cumulative GPA and a math-specific GPA of 3.5 or higher.  Students are able to join Mu Alpha Theta if they are currently taking Algebra 2 Trigonometry or a higher math class.
