Nutritional Analysis

  • Please note, the menus and analysis are designed to meet the nutritional needs of healthy students. They are not intended for the use of medical decisions when dealing with specialty diets such as diabetes, soy or whey allergies. Please consult a physician for advice.
    Parkway elementary and middle school students were introduced to a nutritional rating system called the "Dot Project"  to help them make smarter food choices in the school cafeteria. The food is evaluated for its nutritional content and then assigned an easy-to-follow color-code:

    Green: Best Choice

    Yellow: Choose Occasionally

    Red: Choose Rarely

    A student will know that a salad (green) can be eaten every day, while a fruit crisp or cobbler (yellow) is fine once in a while and a piece of cake (red) should be eaten only on special occasions. Additionally, elementary students are getting an extra entree choice at lunch this year.

    Elementary Sack Lunches:

    The elementary sack lunch is offered daily in our elementary schools as an alternate to the main menu offered on those days. The analysis for the sack lunch lists the items that may appear in a sack lunch.

    A combination of one entrée and 2 side food items will be offered in the sack lunch.  The Sack Lunch meets 3 of 5 food components established by the USDA Menu Guidelines.
