       Sustainability Learning

Recognizing the need to prepare students to positively respond to an ever-changing world, the Board of Education passed the integration of the Parkway Principles of Education for Sustainability into the elementary science curriculum. With the hopes of expanding the principles, our goal is to give all students the opportunity to learn about and confidently address sustainability issues.

      What we do

      • Sustainable Schools Challenge: The Sustainable Schools Challenge is an annual competition open to all students and staff in which schools earn points and compete by going green.

        • For the 2022-2023 School Year, our schools are encouraged to participate in the Green Schools Quest by USGBC-Missouri Gateway chapter.  Visit GreenSchoolsQuest.org to learn more!

      • Curriculum Integration: The Board approved the Parkway Principles of Education for Sustainability that were developed by the Sustainability Department in collaboration with the elementary STEM coordinator, EarthWays Center, and a team of dedicated teachers. These principles have been integrated into the elementary science curriculum with the hopes of expansion into other areas.

      • Classroom Resources: Whether it is guest speakers, field trip ideas, grants, lesson plans, or quick activities, we can help you find ways to connect classroom learning with exciting, real-world sustainability topics.

      • Student Green Team support: We can support your green team by providing project ideas, messaging, or various resources.
