• Accessing eMedia to Create the Joy of Reading

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, this spring has been a challenging time for the entire society and transitioning to a remote, eLearning environment has been one approach to supporting students. We are very fortunate to have access to many digital platforms and resources. Summer is the time where students can read at their own pace and have the flexibility to explore new genres, revisit favorites, try an audiobook, and plan for future reading. Below are many resources for digital content either through Parkway, St Louis County Library, or other online sites.  For additional options, resources and access information check with your student's specific school library site.

  • Parkway Digital Content

The Parkway Clever platform brings many K-12 district applications into one secure portal and provides single sign-on for students. It is a way to access most district provided digital resources.

    middle school summer reading site

Additional elementary and secondary library databases can be accessed on each school's library page.
  • Other Resources

One of the many roles librarians hold is that of curator. The evolution of digital content allows librarians to link program and practice priorities to learning objectives for students. Below are curated resources that are organized, accessible, and ready for use by and for readers.

    Tumble book library

From the Missouri State Library, Tumbleweed Press is providing access to the following collections at no charge through August 31, 2020.

    audible stories

Stories entertain. They teach. They keep young minds engaged. And they bring us together.

That’s why, for as long as schools are closed, Audible will be open. Keeping to the founding belief that the spoken word can be inspiring and transporting in deeply intimate ways, they have created Stories.Audible.com—a place where anyone, in any country, can enjoy unlimited streaming of hundreds of titles for kids and families for free.

    storyline online

Storyline Online is a children's literacy website created by the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, which provides free storytelling by celebrated actors including Viola Davis, Kristen Bell, Chris Pine, Lily Tomlin and more. The site contains videos and resources for parents and teachers to foster a love of reading in children.

    starfall site

Starfall.com is a free public service to teach children to read. Since then it has expanded to include language arts and mathematics for preschool, kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and third grade. Starfall’s emphasis on phonemic awareness, systematic sequential phonics, and common sight words in conjunction with audiovisual interactivity has proven effective in teaching emergent readers.
