Outdoor school has been a staple in the Parkway School District for over 60 years. For nearly 50 years, Camp Lakewood (YMCA) has been our home for Outdoor School. Camp Lakewood allows students to partake in a one of a kind environmental education learning experience that includes water ecology, ecology/geology (mining), skulls and pelts of native animals, and much more.To further benefit from camp, the YMCA and Parkway have partnered to renovate the now condemned Moran Hall. The renovation will include ADA compliant restrooms, collaborative spaces to ensure a 21st-century education for students, and increased storage space for camp equipment. Renderings of the new Moran Hall are below. To view full renderings, click here.
Moran Hall, formerly named Center Hall, is named after long-time outdoor school director Mike Moran. Mike was a director at Shenandoah Valley Elementary and South Middle School.
The renovation will come by way of a matching grant through The Y of America. Our goal is to raise $40,000 in an effort to complete this renovation. Help keep the experience of Outdoor School something our students will never forget!
